As the spotlight shifts from the iPhone 16, HUAWEI has officially introduced the Mate XT, the world’s first tri-folding smartphone, at a launch event in China.
The HUAWEI Mate XT features a unique design with two hinges, allowing it to fold into a triple-screen configuration. Unlike traditional clamshell foldables, this device opens like a book, reminiscent of the Galaxy Z Fold, but with a distinct appearance that sets it apart.
When folded, the Mate XT measures just 12.8mm in thickness. Despite its three screens, its size is comparable to current two-screen foldables. Unfolded, users are greeted with a stunning 10.2-inch OLED display featuring a resolution of 2232 x 3184, a 16:11 aspect ratio, and LTPO capabilities. Additionally, thanks to its dual-hinge design, the device can be adjusted to a more compact 7.9-inch mode.
While HUAWEI has not disclosed specific details about the processor, it is expected to be powered by the Kirin 9010 5G chip or a more advanced variant, supporting satellite connectivity. The camera system is impressive as well, equipped with a 50-megapixel primary lens, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 12-megapixel periscope zoom lens.
Despite its slim profile, the Mate XT houses a robust 5600mAh battery, supporting 66W fast charging for efficient power management. Currently, the Mate XT is exclusive to the Chinese market, with pricing starting at CNY 19,999 (approximately US$ 2,809) for the 16GB/256GB variant, and reaching up to CNY 23,999 (around US$ 3,370) for the 16GB/1TB model.
