Dubai Municipality has unveiled the “Smart Municipality Eye”, a cutting-edge AI-powered aerial monitoring system that uses advanced drone technology to manage and protect over 52 million square metres of green spaces across the emirate.
This innovative initiative integrates artificial intelligence (AI) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to assess plant health, detect irrigation issues, and forecast potential maintenance needs marking a major leap forward in sustainable urban management and smart city development.
Through the Smart Municipality Eye, autonomous drones will conduct aerial and field mapping across all green areas in Dubai. Using real-time data analytics, the system can detect vegetation stress, pest infestations, and irrigation inefficiencies. This enables predictive maintenance, ensuring swift action and long-term sustainability of Dubai’s landscape and public parks.
By combining AI algorithms and high-resolution imaging, the initiative enhances data accuracy, reduces manual inspections, and boosts operational efficiency in maintaining the city’s environmental assets.
To further strengthen this initiative, Dubai Municipality signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Eanan Al Samma for Remote-Controlled Aircraft Manufacturing. The collaboration focuses on developing and deploying next-generation drone and AI technologies to support Dubai’s environmental sustainability and smart city objectives.
The MoU was signed by His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, and His Excellency Rashid Hamdan bin Khadim Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Eanan Al Samma, during Urban Future Week at the Museum of the Future. The event brought together global leaders and experts to discuss urban innovation, AI integration, and future-ready city planning.
His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita emphasized the transformative impact of this initiative, stating:
“This collaboration positions Dubai Municipality as a proactive leader in leveraging AI and drone technology for sustainable city management. We are not merely maintaining greenery; we are shaping Dubai’s environmental and visual identity with precision and innovation.”
He added that the initiative enhances Dubai’s global standing as a smart, sustainable, and liveable city contributing to the emirate’s long-term vision for environmental excellence.
Meanwhile, His Excellency Rashid Hamdan bin Khadim Al Nuaimi noted:
“Partnering with Dubai Municipality reflects our joint commitment to advancing smart government services and sustainable technologies. Together, we aim to develop innovative solutions that enhance operational efficiency and improve quality of life for all residents.”
Under the MoU, both parties will exchange technical expertise, co-develop AI-based monitoring tools, and pilot smart operational models for municipal services. This strategic alliance will:
