Following an unforgettable opening day, GITEX GLOBAL 2024 has kicked off its largest-ever international edition at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), featuring a bustling agenda on Tuesday.
Running from October 14-18, GITEX GLOBAL is celebrating its 44th year by welcoming over 6,500 exhibitors, 1,800 startups, 1,200 investors, and representatives from more than 180 countries.
The event features five themed days, with “AI Super Tuesday” highlighting the most innovative technologies poised to impact society and industry.
AI: A Transformative Force
AI is revolutionizing sectors such as drug discovery, potentially ushering in the most significant advancements in medicine since modern pharmaceuticals emerged. A Tuesday session titled “The Next Leap in Medicine: Are We on the Edge of a Breakthrough?” brought experts together to discuss the pace of AI transformation in healthcare.
Dr. Shameer Khader, Global Head and Executive Director of the Computational Biology Cluster at Sanofi, emphasized the need for change, stating, “Drug discovery typically takes 10-15 years and costs around $1.5-2 billion. This model isn’t sustainable; we must leverage AI to optimize every process and reduce costs.”
During the event, attendees were introduced to “BabyX,” an interactive AI simulation of a lifelike infant. With a virtual brain and neurochemical reactions, BabyX learns and reacts like a human child. Dr. Mark Sagar, co-founder of Soul Machines, highlighted the differences between human and AI intelligence, noting that fostering open-ended learning and creativity is essential for AI development.
A Platform for Collaboration
GITEX GLOBAL also serves as a hub for innovative partnerships. On Tuesday, KAOUN, the leading organizer of business events, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Digital Dubai Authority to expand the GITEX ecosystem and explore new opportunities. Additionally, AWS and e& entered into a $1 billion agreement to enhance cloud solutions and support AI deployment across the region.
AI’s Cross-Sector Impact
The agenda also featured discussions on how high-performance computing is advancing the aviation industry. Isabell Gradert, Vice President of Central Research & Technology at Airbus, stated, “Quantum computing is a potential gamechanger for aviation, helping to solve complex aerospace challenges and revolutionizing aircraft design and operation.”
Exhibitors showcased various solutions, including Presight’s Intelli Platform, an AI-driven management tool for cities and infrastructure, and AWS Bedrock, a service that simplifies building and deploying generative AI applications.
As GITEX GLOBAL 2024 continues on Wednesday with “Cybersecurity Day,” industry leaders will address emerging threats and strategies for a digital world. The event also features discussions on Intelligent Connectivity and the World Future Economy Digital Leaders Summit, bringing together global experts and innovators.
GITEX GLOBAL is part of a larger network of tech events, including GITEX EUROPE in Berlin, GITEX ASIA in Singapore, GITEX AFRICA in Morocco, and GITEX NIGERIA, all working to drive innovation and collaboration in the tech landscape.
