Dubai International Airport has introduced the “Red Carpet” system, an innovative solution that automates passenger clearance and streamlines the travel experience.
The system requires as little as six seconds to complete the process, allowing passengers to walk through seamlessly without presenting any travel documents.
This project, launched by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai in collaboration with Dubai Airports, is the first of its kind globally. The new smart corridor enables travelers to bypass all traditional passport control steps in just a few seconds, simply by walking through the designated pathway. The corridor can process up to 10 passengers at the same time, ensuring both speed and efficiency.
Powered by artificial intelligence and biometric data recognition, including advanced facial recognition, the system automatically verifies travelers’ identities. The experience is designed to be entirely frictionless—no stops, no paperwork, just a natural walk through. In cases where the system cannot identify a passenger, travelers will be redirected to staff for manual checks, balancing both convenience and security.
Early estimates suggest that the smart corridor can process each traveler in 6–14 seconds, while simultaneously handling multiple passengers. This not only reduces waiting times at passport counters but also enhances the airport’s overall capacity to handle higher passenger volumes.
The “Red Carpet” project is part of Dubai’s wider vision to remain a global leader in smart travel solutions. In recent years, the emirate has implemented several AI-driven systems that automate entry, exit, and visa processes, making travel smoother, faster, and more contactless.
