Someone made a Leak, and now AMD’s yet-to-be-announced Ryzen 9000X3D desktop processors have been partially unveiled. However, similar to Intel’s new Arrow Lake desktop CPUs, they may not represent a significant performance boost over previous models.
Slides from an MSI presentation shared by HardwareLuxx today (via VideoCardz) suggest that the new chips could show decent multicore performance improvements, with an eight-core 9000X3D outperforming the Ryzen 7 7900X3D by as much as 28 percent in Cinebench R23. However, preliminary testing from MSI indicates only minimal gains—around 2 percent—in titles like Black Myth: Wukong and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Comparisons with the standard Ryzen 9000 series reveal that the X3D performance is nearly identical. MSI did mention that “performance is expected to be better on PR samples and retail chips.”
It remains unclear whether HardwareLuxx accidentally broke an embargo or if MSI was responsible for the leak. Interestingly, the portion of the presentation discussing AMD’s unreleased chips appeared to be part of a larger segment focused on Intel’s new Core Ultra 200S chips. Additionally, it’s noted that the discussion of Intel chips was under embargo until October 10th.
